Our life & travels
February 2011
So compared to January, February was very quiet but not without its highlights. Ski 2011 safari was a lot of fun - quite painful on occasions, and missing a few key people, but Gordon managed 50% ski time and that in itself was a major improvement on previous years. I am hoping that next year, Park City, will maybe have Ray and middle John, could be Kim and invites will go out to little John and Alanovitch Bastardos - who knows, might as well plan big.
So February started out with the Superbowl at Pat and Carole’s which wasn’t so super for Gordon - Yep, braingraine - Again! Of course, the Birds had made their exit much earlier so there was a minimal care level. Partially rooting for the ‘Burgh, due to old loyalties, but Big Ben kinda makes them hard to love. Well done to the Cheese-heads (somewhere Westy is happy) and you had to love the #fail by dem Cowboys. (What can I tell you, us Philly fans kind have zero or less love for Dallas).
The rest of the month seems to have been taken up with a cold - Gordon brought it back from the road and Kim caught it within hours - seriously, G was coughing Monday and by Tuesday K was sick - that never happens - bugs are afraid of Kim - they just run screaming... usually to Gordon who has a much more welcoming immune system. A little bugger of a cold but survivable in the grand scheme of things.
On the life front, February wasn’t minor. John Vetter, our nephew who we get more proud of on a regular basis, decided to get engaged to Thalia. She was the friend he did such a good job of supporting over Christmas and someone we have a lot of respec’t for. She is working damn hard to get herself through school, in spite of the worlds attempts to make it harder. We wish them nothing but the best - I “waited” until I was 40 to find the right woman, so what do I know, but I think Johnny has himself a winner - and Thalia too of course ☺.
And if that wasn’t enough, Gordon finally got himself a full time job (it gets weird with the 3rd person thing some times ☺). Through an old friend from Vitria I have landed a CTO position (background checks not withstanding) with a solid, established start-up in San Raphael. Just round the corner from Corinna - Yeh. It is a great commute and has tremendous potential. I don’t start until March 14th, so I’ll post more at that point. I’m extracting myself from SAP, after a couple of years of strategy consulting, and I probably have commentary on that after a while. Still, all in all, I am totally stoked to be in front of a very focused and meaningful new job. I hope I do Pete justice for his faith in me.
